Corey Kluber Tosses No-Hitter

On Wednesday, May 19th, Corey Kluber threw a no-hitter against the Texas Rangers. It was the 12th no-hitter in Yankees history, and their first since 1999.

Kluber gave up one walk in the third inning to Charlie Culberson. But besides that, he was lights out. He struck out nine Rangers over nine innings, throwing a total of 101 pitches.

“I think it’s all kinds of emotions,” Kluber said after the game. “It’s excitement, you know, probably some relief, too, that it’s over with.”

The Yankees won the game 2–0, with an RBI triple by Tyler Wade, and a sacrifice fly by DJ LeMahieu.

This was the sixth no-hitter thrown this season. The MLB record for no-hitters in a season is eight, set in 1884. Since there are still roughly five and a half months left of the regular season, that record should be absolutely demolished.

For the Yankees, this was their seventh win in the last 10 games, bringing their record up to 24–19. After a rough start to the year, they are 1.5 games back from first place in the AL East. Kluber’s no-hitter is just the energy they need to take down the Red Sox for first place in their division.
